Situated in a luxurious estate on southern terraces of Hout bay, the house was native to two spectacular viewpoints. The front looked to vast, slopes of cape mountain fynbos, while the back of house overlooked the gorgeous, sea-blue backdrop of Hout bay. Such breath-taking views inspired a landscape of equal satisfaction.
Plant were drawn from a strictly indigenous pallet as per regulations. The concept was drawn from my fabulous clients who both lean to the unique ideology – ‘Less is more’.
The aim was to achieve a contemporary, self-sustainable landscape that showed clear design intent and stylized variation.
The back garden was set on a steep gradient of rocks and 16 tree stumps on various levels. The aim was to create a focal landing area for table & chairs, amid a tranquil, indigenous landscape. Level terraces were created to showcase plants around a central sleeper-platform for table and chairs. The green, sushi-wrap facades had a massive influence on focus of attention. Plant choices and contrasting was informed by this as the wall enhanced anything and everything that exist in the foreground.
